Facebook has 100m users in Africa

The Real Question?

Should you be recruiting on FaceBook?

Facebook has reached a significant milestone in Africa, announcing that as of June 2014, 100m people are connecting to the social network at least once a month.

And showing that Africa truly is a “mobile first” continent, Facebook has revealed that 80% of users are connecting via their mobile phones rather than from desktops and laptops.

Roughly half of the 200m people who connect to the Internet in Africa use the social networking site. Worldwide, Facebook had about 1,3bn active users at the end of June, meaning 7,7% of its user base comes from Africa.

“In addition to this being a significant milestone for Facebook, it also reflects the fact that people in high-growth countries want to be connected to the world around them and that mobile is providing unprecedented ways for that to happen,” Facebook said in a statement.  — © 2014 NewsCentral Media
